Experiment 2.2 Pond Life part 2

Each student collected 4 samples of pond water. Now the goal is to see if we can find anything fun in the samples. We "fed" each jar. 4 jars per student fed: straw, white rice, soil, boiled egg yolk. Then the students took samples from each and put them on slides to examine under the microscope. Although they seemed to do very well, we reexamined after the class was over and the dust settled and the pics below demonstrate what we found. From the straw sample, volvox, paramecium, bacteria, and one we suspect to be e.coli:

Next is rice.  The class all seemed to think the white rice "killed" everything, but we found these bacteria, paramecium, amoeba, and euglena.

From the soil we found amoeba and bacteria.

From the egg yolk we found amoeba, bacteria, and volvox.
